But there are several important considerations to keep in mind when planning a holiday with your dog. Which hotels allow dogs? Are there dog friendly restaurants and bars nearby? Are there activities in the area that you and your dog can enjoy together?

With plenty of options for dog-friendly hotels, restaurants and things to do, these dog-friendly travel ideas are sure to give your pooch two paws. Burlington, Vermont is one of New England’s most dog-friendly destinations. Boasting incredible outdoor adventures and a hip, laid-back downtown, Burlington is a playground for dogs and their companions. You can find many fun things to do with your puppy. Cycle the Burlington Greenway along the shores of Lake Champlain, then stop to sample local beers at one of the city’s many dog-friendly breweries. Burlington beer spots that allow pups indoors include Foam Brewers and Zero Gravity Craft Brewery, while places like Switchback Brewing Co allow dogs inside. Church Street Marketplace, one of New England’s most famous pedestrian (and dog-friendly) malls, has plenty of dog-friendly food and shopping. For pet-friendly lodging, Made in Vermont, a charming bed and breakfast within walking distance of downtown, offers a comfortable home away from home for you and your dog.

You can’t visit Maine without trying the local lobster roll, and Bite in Maine has an outdoor food truck with pet-friendly picnic tables in the park. Higgins Beach is a popular place for children to splash in the sand and splash in the water. You and your dog will love exploring Nantucket together. This tiny island off the coast of Cape Cod has virtually no traffic lights and plenty of New England charm. Right from the boat ride, where you’ll find many other pet owners on tour, it’s clear that Nantucket is a welcoming place for dog visitors. Choose from a wide variety of dog-friendly things to do, from walking the Sconset Bluff Walk to exploring historic lighthouses. There are several dog-friendly patios in town, including breakfast hotspot Black-Eyed Susan’s and eclectic American bistro Queequegs. Stay a while at the tranquil Brass Lantern Inn Bed and Breakfast, which welcomes four-legged friends in select rooms for a nominal fee.
This very dog-friendly town in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom is a must-visit. Known as the Ski Capital of the East, Stowe draws visitors from near and far to the world-class resort every winter. For a bigger adventure, Smuggler’s Notch State Park offers miles of trails through the spectacular Green Mountains area. Our favorite part of traveling is the food and this area has everything from Boston Baked Beans, Wild Blueberries, Casseroles, Chowders, Breads and Apples! Our dogs Brickle and Digby definitely had their favourites! We may have shared some blueberry pies in Maine!

Take a walk with your dog and see the magnificent old boats and learn about the nautical lifestyle that was common in this part of New England. Pets must be on a leash and are welcome in all outdoor areas. Pets can also join you on a guided shore excursion as long as the tour size allows a dog on the boat! Choose mobile homes in the area that offer views of the water and are dog-friendly!
