We have rented condos from different people and had excellent experiences with each.
We have rented several condos in Bee Branch over the years, the benefit is that you can ski (right down the “easy street”) which is convenient for family members to get to the condos. Most condos and houses have fireplaces, so you can bring wood or buy loaner wood from a local grocery store or Banner Elk. It’s a bit expensive to buy it there but it’s good to help their local economy, we usually use two packs every night

For lunch and dinner we take frozen casseroles and soups in a large cooler so we don’t have to eat out, which saves money and time. After returning from a long day of skiing, we shower, put on our pajamas and cozy up to a delicious home-cooked meal.

Be sure to have a warm and waterproof jacket as it is sometimes a mix of rain and snow. I learned the hard way by getting a warm ski jacket that is not waterproof
Also take several pairs of ski gloves or dry them overnight if your apartment has a dryer. Starting the day with wet gloves is miserable (some condos have washers and dryers and some don’t.)

I also recommend getting real ski boots Ski boots have no support and ski socks have some cushioning, warm and ready for skiing.
Don’t forget ski goggles or at least a good pair of sunglasses I really like goggles on cold days and sunglasses on hot days
If you​​​​​​are going back to the resort, I also recommend some kind of snow boots or at least waterproof shoes. You will be walking through ice and in many cases dirty water and mud
You can rent all the equipment from Sugar Mountain Resort, which we do. I strongly recommend renting equipment the day or night before your first day of skiing to save time. The lines can be very long in the morning and you will miss real skiing time.

You also need to buy a slope/lift card every day, you can buy it before you start at 8pm or while you are skiing they don’t allow you to buy several days at once
You can sign up for ski school at the resort if you don’t know how to ski, which I recommend, especially for adults. Children learn faster than the adults in your party know how to ski We taught our grandchildren the easy route (starting slope) in two thought they still looked good
If you drive or walk to the results (eg do not stay in a house or condo that allows you to ski in / out), I recommend renting a locker. It enables you to store your skis, poles, ski boots, helmets etc. to save over night. Carrying all that equipment back and forth to your car or your apartment is a lot of work
When you rent a locker, we take plastic grocery bags (see the photo below) to cover our ski boots overnight. This prevents water from dripping off your helmet and skis staying overnight in your boots. Wearing wet shoes the next morning is unfortunate

We also carry a boot dryer (dry gloves and hats if your apartment doesn’t have a dryer). The night we rented our equipment, our boots got wet so we dried them in the boot dryer.
You can also buy slope/lift tickets for night skiing we did this once as a family and it was so much fun! But it’s also nice to go back to your condo and relax, especially for us middle-aged people
