Best Pet Friendly Resorts Midwest – When we were looking for a place to stay on our recent trip to Door County with the in-laws, two things were important: dog-friendly and being on the beach. We have already looked at private rentals but have not found anything that fits our situation and within our budget. We found Shallows Resort in Egg Harbor to fit that criteria. We thought that unlike a private rental, we could take the peace of a private rental place and keep Memphis on a leash, but we were wrong on two counts. The hills are the perfect place for us and our dog.
As mentioned earlier, life in water is the most important thing for us. With Door County being on a peninsula and all, if you’re not on the water, you’re missing out on a lot. Naval Station Shallows was not affected. It’s a great pool and our room balcony had a front row view. We can exit right through our back door. Â There is a small playground and a place where you can go directly into the water if you want. And you can launch kayaks through the dock. Best of all were the views we enjoyed at the end of the night looking out over the water; One is a beautiful orange sunset, and the other is an approaching summer storm. They are just as beautiful.

Whenever we can, we love to take our dogs with us on our travels. This is important to us in Door County, where he enjoys hiking and swimming in Lake Michigan. For an additional pet fee of $40 per day, The Shallows allows you to bring your pet. They asked not to leave the dog in the room unattended. Outside the yard, they are very friendly to dogs and do not mind if a good pet is let on a leash to be with the owner of the dog or to take a bath. I understand that if someone abuses this by allowing a dog they can’t keep on a leash, they have to put it down, so be careful. Although we deliberately chose when to release it, such as when people go to barbecues. Memphis can steal fast food, so we didn’t want to take any chances. But if you know your dog’s abilities, this is the perfect place to take him.
8 Dog-friendly Vacations In New England · The Wildest
One of my favorite and most memorable encounters was meeting an old gentleman on my first day who I thought was a ranger. Every morning they talk about the best fishing spots, boat rentals, vacations and ideas. On the other hand, the original flavored cheese was not available, and the gentleman hurried to provide a new batch of the original flavored cheese. He always spoke highly of our dog and was knowledgeable about our trip to ensure we had a carefree experience. It wasn’t until the last day when we said our goodbyes that Ryan realized that this elderly gentleman was not the caretaker, but the meanest person in the entire resort! He made each and every one of his customers feel so welcome, some we spoke to have been coming back year after year, some for over 30 years!
As if the water wasn’t enough, the resort offers other amenities. Our favorite was the small pool and hot tub. You have to walk a long way from the pool to swim, so the pool is the best place to swim and it’s right next to the sea. They have several kayaks that you can use for free during your stay. All we have to do is register them and we’re on our way. They have a hiking trail and tennis court that I’m sure we didn’t get to try because we were too busy enjoying everything. In my opinion, this is another reason to book a return trip.
Our rooms have all the necessary features of a hotel room, clean bathrooms, comfortable beds and enough space for all of us. T.V. we didn’t use it much because we were out and about all day and enjoyed the amenities and sunset view at night. We made great use of the in-room fridge to store our wine and cheese which was brought daily. Our favorite and most used area is the veranda as it overlooks the water and is the place of choice for relaxation.
You couldn’t ask for a better place than Egg Harbor, home to The Shallows Resort. It’s on a peninsula, close to other towns where most of the tourist activities are located, but not too far from Sturgeon Bay, which is the only town with a Walmart, Walgreens, or medical center should you have any problems or needs. . Egg Harbor offers a beautiful beach, fun shopping, and great restaurants, so you don’t have to go far to find the best of Door County.
