Dog Friendly Beaches East Lothian – This year we explore the hallmarks of British heritage with our annual passport. While on holiday in Northumberland we took the opportunity to meet my friend Jenny. He suggested a meeting at Tantallon Castle, a historic Scottish estate near North Berwick, East Lothian. It’s a great opportunity to explore a new location with historic Scottish features or English Heritage membership for free or half price.
Tantallon Castle is a historic Scottish estate near North Berwick in East Lothian. It was built in the mid-13th century by William Douglas, whose descendants owned the castle for the next 300 years. It survived two sieges, but the destruction of Oliver Cromwell’s army in 1851 led to its abandonment.

These days are far from abusive. The attractive clifftop location attracts tourists and we took some wedding photos there. I can only imagine how beautiful those photos were.

Several excavations from the period 2013 to 2014 are also of interest to archaeologists. There are spectacular views from Tantallon Castle to the seabird nesting town of Bass Rock. From the castle walls you can see wildlife, including wandering house martins.
It’s a perfect place for kids to explore. They walked through the fields, climbed the towers and played together. At the entrance they give the children some toys, torches and binoculars to make their visit more enjoyable. This certainly got them interested in the area and allowed us to enjoy the castle.
After admiring the castle, we decided to go to the beach we were looking for tomorrow. Just a few minutes’ drive from Tantallon Castle is dog-friendly Seacliff Beach. It was a very quiet Monday afternoon during the summer holidays.
You jump down a special road with an automatic barrier to get to the beach. For £3 you can access a small car park a short walk from the beach. A wide, almost deserted stretch of soft sand offers spectacular views of Tantallon Castle and Bass Rock.
Moray Beaches The Best For Dogs
We spread out picnic blankets on the dry sand and grabbed some snacks before the kids ran to the beach. The clear, blue water was a bit chilly, but it didn’t seem to bother her at all. Good company, a historic building and a beach with plenty of surfing opportunities were the perfect ingredients for a truly great day out with the whole family.
