You can book hotel accommodation here. With carefully selected hotels, the best pet policies and pet discounts, you’ll never find a better value than Romingo. In this post, I want to look at the most dog-friendly places in the West ~ focusing on California and Oregon, two states where you can easily travel with your pet (I know because I come here often)! In these states, I like to find the best and most dog-friendly places: i.e. lots of dog parks or dog-friendly beaches, pet-friendly hotels, and a laid-back vibe of the city makes it easy for you to adventure. And I found great places, like Bend, Oregon and Carmel in California…among many others. Join me and my dog Dylan as we explore the “Best Dog Friendly Places on the West Coast!”
Although my only dog-friendly beach destination in Oregon is Cannon Beach, take note: almost EVERY beach in Oregon is dog-friendly, with fewer rules and restrictions than the beaches in California! Translation: The Oregon Coast is a GREAT place for a dog-friendly trip. Photo from Gold Beach, Oregon.
I love Cannon Beach for many reasons: charming town, lots of great restaurants, VACATION (Sleeping Monks!!), lots of top hotels, pet friendly and of course: THE BEACH, where 100% pet friendly. NO leash needed here!! Oregon is more relaxed than California in this regard. And the views of Haystack Rock will leave you in awe, especially at sunset. Stroll along Ocean Avenue with your dog, enjoy a bowl of soup on one of the many outdoor patios, and be sure to stop by the corner pet store: Puppy Love by the Sea.
Dog-friendly Campsites On California Beaches
***My picks for the best pet-friendly hotels in Cannon Beach: This hotel is located between: Ocean Lodge & Surfsand Resort. Both are exclusive, beachfront hotels and very pet-friendly. Ocean Lodge’s rooms are larger and take advantage of better views ~ but Surfsand is closer to town and Haystack Rock, the rooms are gorgeous, and their Wayfarer Restaurant is my favorite in town (and they offer room service)…
Bend is where I currently live in the US and honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever lived in a more pet-friendly place. The number of great dog parks in Bend alone puts California dog parks to shame, and nearly every restaurant in town with an outdoor patio is dog-friendly, including: McMenamin’s St. Francis School (which is a bar, brewery, movie theater, concert venue, cigar bar, and hotel in a former Catholic school), Naked Wine, Avid Cider, Crux Brewing, 10 Barrel…& the list goes on…& ON.
There are more dog-friendly parks, hotels, and restaurants in Bend than any other city on this list! Dylan is pictured here on the famous Deschutes River Trail, in downtown Bend.
*** My pick for the best pet-friendly hotels/hotels in Bend: Tetherow Golf Resort. At Tetherow, you get a luxury cottage on the golf course, with AMAZING mountain views ~ and just 5 minutes from downtown Bend and the famous Old Mill District. This is the best pet-friendly accommodation in town. Otherwise, head to Sunriver Resort, about 20 minutes south of Bend: one of the best family vacation spots in the United States.
The Best Dog-friendly Beaches In Sydney
Carmel’s main beach is my favorite off-leash dog-friendly beach in the world: The famous Pebble Beach is on the right, and if you follow the moon-shaped beach on the left, you’ll see cypress trees Surround your view, million-dollar homes of all types…from beautiful cottage styles to elegant and modern. There’s a reason Clint Eastwood lives here: Carmel has something special.
And this city loves dogs: they’re welcome almost everywhere ~ but I especially like Forge in Foreth’s cozy terrace, with its special dog menu…
Carmel isn’t the only place in Monterey Bay with great ocean views: head to Pacific Grove and walk along the beach for views like these…
