Where Can I Get Cheap Vaccinations For My Puppy – Early vaccinations and vaccinations are both important to give your new puppy or kitten the best chance of a long, healthy life. These are expenses that every new pet parent should budget for.
However, there is no standard cost to vaccinate your cat or dog. Prices vary from doctor to doctor, and depending on where you live, how much you have to pay can vary significantly.

To find out how these costs can change, we looked at prices at 72 veterinary hospitals in England, Scotland and Wales. We looked at prices for kitten and puppy vaccination packages, as well as annual increases for adult cats and dogs.

Puppies are vaccinated once at 8 to 10 weeks of age and again 2 to 4 weeks later.
According to the British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA), the main vaccinations your dog should receive are canine distemper (CDV), parvovirus (CPV), canine infectious hepatitis (CAV) and leptospirosis.
There is no primary vaccine for kennel cough, an upper respiratory infection in dogs similar to the common cold in humans. For example, it is recommended for dogs that spend a lot of time with other dogs in their kennels.

In the UK, the average cost of a basic dog vaccination package (including two sets of shots) was found to be £95.22.
Naturally, prices have risen due to the cost of living. Prices have risen by 40% compared to two years ago.
How To Find Low-cost Pet Vaccinations For Your Dog Or Cat
Veterinarians typically do not provide kennel cough vaccines as part of this package, but you may choose to include them. Most clinics charge extra for the kennel cough vaccine, but some clinics offer discounts when given at the same time as other vaccines.
When a vet offered a discounted price along with a dog course, the average total course cost was £135.30. The average price of a single kennel cough vaccine is £49.46, so that’s a saving of around £10.
To keep your puppy healthy as he or she grows, vaccinations against common diseases will need to be increased each year. A booster vaccination against leptospirosis should be given annually.
Other vaccines may be given every year or every three years, as advised by your doctor, depending on your level of risk.
Why Your Puppy’s Vaccine Schedule Matters
In the UK, annual dog grooming costs £64.60 (38% more than two years ago). This price does not include kennel cough vaccination. The average cost of a booster dose for kennel cough is £97, with a saving of around £15 if you get the booster and kennel cough vaccine separately.
According to a survey of 72 vets, the most expensive place in the UK to get your dog’s annual supplementary vaccinations is London, with an average cost of £71. Wales is the cheapest region at £59.75.
If your dog misses his annual vaccinations, you can expect to pay for the first vaccination to get him vaccinated again. Costs vary by clinic, and you should always consult with a local doctor to find the right clinic for your specific situation.
A titer test is a blood test your vet can do to determine which diseases your dog is already immune to. However, this is not a replacement for vaccinations and your pet may still be immune.
Protecting Your New Pet: The Importance Of Early Vaccinations
“Some people choose to do a titer test after the primary vaccination,” says veterinarian Dr Sophie Bell. “You need a blood test to check your antibody levels,” she said. If it’s moderately high, you might not get vaccinated that year, but if it’s low, an increase is needed.
She says, “It’s important to remember that some facilities, such as boarding kennels, will not board a dog based on a titer test alone. A full vaccination record is often required.”
Titer testing also incurs a cost, which may not be less than the cost of an annual booster dose.
Kittens have the same vaccination schedule as dogs. The basic vaccination course recommended in the UK is two sets of shots. One set is given when the kittens are 9 weeks old and the other set is given at 12 weeks old.
How To Do Puppy Vaccinations And Give Your Puppies Shots
The main vaccinations your kitten receives will protect against serious diseases such as feline parvovirus (FPV), feline calicivirus (FCV), and feline herpesvirus (FHV).
FeLV (feline leukemia) is not a primary vaccine and the need for the vaccine will depend on your cat’s lifestyle and local environment. This vaccination is recommended for outdoor cats and is usually provided as standard.
In the UK, the average cost of a kitten’s primary vaccination course (including both vaccines and the FeLV vaccine set) is £97.69.
As with dog vaccinations, the cost of living crisis has led to a 34% increase in numbers over the past two years.
Low Cost Pet Vaccinations
London is the most expensive region for a kitten vaccination course, with an average cost of £113.30.
FeLV (feline leukemia) is not a traditional primary vaccine, but most veterinarians include it as part of their primary vaccine package.
The average cost of getting the FeLV vaccination is higher than not, but it’s worth the difference if your kitten needs it.
It’s just slightly cheaper to skip it. A kitten course costs £90.90 on average, and many vets charge the same price whether you choose to do it or not.
Free Pet Vaccines
Surprisingly, London is not the most expensive location for a cat boost (including FeLV). It’s actually Scotland, with an average price of £70.38.
If your cat misses a vaccination, you will usually need to pay for a basic course to start over.
As we’ve seen, costs vary from clinic to clinic, but always check with your local doctor if you’re not sure which is best.
The main reason you should vaccinate your pet is so that it provides greater protection against common and often fatal diseases. Vaccines work by strengthening your pet’s immune system and making it better equipped to fight off diseases it may come into contact with.

Even if your pet survives the early stages of a serious infection, many diseases can cause serious health problems in cats and dogs and significantly shorten their life expectancy.
When more animals in a community are vaccinated, there is less chance of an infectious disease spreading or causing harm to unvaccinated animals. This is called herd immunity.
Some diseases can also be transmitted from animals to humans. This is called a zoonotic disease. An example is leptospirosis, which is generally preventable with a dog vaccine. Although rare, this unpleasant disease can be transmitted to humans in the form of Weill disease.
It goes without saying that the more often you take your pet to the vet, the more money you will have to spend. Although your cat or dog may recover from the initial illness, some illnesses can seriously damage your pet’s overall health, requiring you to take them to the vet more often in the long run.
Rabies Vaccines For Dogs: What Pet Parents Should Know
For example, FeLV (feline leukemia) can seriously affect your cat’s immune system and make them more likely to develop other diseases and health problems, such as anemia and feline cancer. Parvovirus can also cause organ and immune system problems in dogs.
There are certain situations in which your cat or dog may need to be vaccinated. Many kennels and restaurants in the UK require proof of vaccination before your pet can stay with you. Kennel cough (as the name suggests) is an example of a disease that can spread quickly between unvaccinated dogs in close proximity.
When taking your cat or dog abroad, you should first check the vaccination restrictions and requirements of the country you are visiting. If you are visiting a country in the European Union or Northern Ireland, you are required by law to have your pet vaccinated against rabies.
