Dog Friendly Lodging Near Glacier National Park – Trying to decide whether to take your dog to the Glacier? Read on to help decide. (Note – We do not currently hold pets at the Inn)
Unlike Canada, national parks in the United States are for dogs, and Glacier National Park is no exception. It has been said that depending on the type of trip you are going on, taking your dog on a vacation northwest of Montana can be a good idea.
Dog Friendly Lodging Near Glacier National Park
Dogs are not allowed on the road to Glacier National Park, which can be a big deal because hiking is one of the most popular activities in the area. You can bring your dog into the park and dogs are allowed on the trails, campsites and parking lots. Dogs are also allowed in rural areas (many glaciers, Lake McDonald, Apgar). Dogs are allowed on the bike lanes around Apgar and on Highway 2 west of the western glacier.

The National Forest is more dog-friendly than a national park, and you can walk your dog anywhere in the Flathead National Forest. Cable is required in many parts, but the relevant rules do not seem to apply.
Local municipalities have dog rules and regulations. Begg Park is a small park (3.5 acres) south of Kalispell.
Nearby Whitefish offers the Hugh Rogers Wag, one of the top dog parks in the United States. The park has sidewalks, seating areas, dog and human drinking areas, community center, small dog area, quick courses, swimming pool and dog beach, dog wash area, trees and views of the nearby mountains. Located at Armory Park on E 2nd Street in Whitefish www.whitefishdogpark.org. There is also a bike path from downtown to the beach along the Whitefish River, perfect for walking dogs.

Glacier National Park is a wonderful place where the desert is not affected by the edge of the continent and the mountains rise to the sky. But visiting our national park is not easy for dog walkers.
Glaciers are one of the few places in North America where our carnivores still live. Black and black bears, wolves and cattle roam the valleys and lush green valleys. Protecting the sanctuary and its people means controlling where animals are allowed to go.
Glacier National Park: The Ultimate Guide
There are some paths on the ice. One runs north and south along the western edge of the park. Highway 2 runs from East Glacier Park Village to West Glacier. The most famous Going-to-the-Sun trail runs 50 km east and west through the center of the park.
Going-to-the-Sun Trail is the most popular way to explore the park. The journey takes about 3 hours – each way – if you take a few photos along the way. And why wouldn’t you want to freeze a photo?
On the Going-to-the-Sun road, pets are allowed in the development area. This means a picnic area, parking lot and within 100 miles, it can be a long day in the car for your dog.
If you are driving on the Going-to-the-Sun Road (and you should), plan a few stops along the way to get your child out and stretch.
Where To Stay In Glacier National Park: A Complete Guide
There is only one way to visit Glacier National Park with the dogs and if it is not covered with snow. Macdonald Creek is a 2.5-mile walkway between West Glacier and Apgar Village.
Is Glacier National Park smaller than expected? Consider a cross-border trip to a dog park in Canada’s Waterton Lakes National Park!
We recommend a trip to the West Glacier, pick up ice cream at Eddy’s, relax near Lake MacDonald when you arrive at Apgar and then return. Back to the mainland.
When hanging out with your four-legged friends in Glacier National Park, you may encounter wildlife on the park’s streets and paths, so be careful. Bears are known to chase dogs that can be dangerous to you and your cubs.

Glacier National Park may not be the best place for dogs, but the surrounding area is! From the vast forests to the friendly little towns of western Montana, there is plenty to offer both travelers and pets.
Just across the border from America’s famous Glacier National Park is the most beautiful and friendly Waterton Lakes National Park!

Waterton is famous for its crystal lakes, waterfalls and peaks. But our favorite part is how much you and your dog can do together!
For a great trip, take your child to the southern part of the forest. Flathead Forest, Kootenai, Lewis and Clark National Forests are all within easy driving distance. All national forest roads are pet!
In fact, dogs are allowed to roam freely in many areas of the national forest. But because of the local wildlife, it is not a good idea unless they have the most reliable memory.
The Hungry Horse Reservoir in Flathead National Forest is beautiful and the trails feel like you have it all for yourself.
Montana Pet-friendly Vacation Rentals
Flathead Lake is amazing. We spent a week visiting it and gave it five stars for a dog outing near Glacier National Park. It must see if you are visiting western Montana. You will find hiking trails, outdoor festival camps, boating, swimming and more.
The lake is about an hour from the west entrance to Glacier National Park. It is the largest salt lake west of the Mississippi River, about 30 miles long and 16 miles wide. Therefore, your travel time may vary slightly depending on which part of the lake you are traveling to.
Most of the land around Flathead Lake was part of the Flathead Indian Reservation, established by the Hellgate Treaty in 1855. The area is home to three tribes: Bitterroot Salish, Upper Pend d’Oreille and Kootenai.
Along with the National Park, six Montana State Parks have spots on the shores of Lake Flathead. Together, they form Flathead Lake State Park. The 5 areas of the state park are pet friendly and allow dogs to wear leashes:

Yellow Bay only offers tents (first come, first served), but other dog resorts offer tents and RVs. Some have mountaineering, cycling or boat camping! Cool Whip, Hercules and I camped in our car at Wayfarers, Big Am and West Shore. Each offers a slightly different experience, so playing in the park around the lake is a lot of fun.
Two of my favorite things about these parks are pet bins and free shipping. They make it easy to feed your dog and enjoy a safe and pet-friendly trip!
The Wayfarers is a 67-acre landscape forest located in Bigfork, Montana. We are excited on the North Shore (Minnesota) with pine trees next to the beach. It also provides the perfect place to enjoy the sunset after a long day.
