Dog Friendly Holidays Hampshire – Made up of Portsmouth, Southampton and Winchester, this coastal country is perfect for a summer holiday. With beaches, forests, parks, castles, ruins and of course Stonehenge, Hampshire has something for everyone, launched by Hampshire Countryside Services. The goal is for people to know where they can off-leash their dogs and where they want their dogs to be on the lead or on the trail. Browndown Point Beach is a sand and gravel beach owned by the Ministry of Defence. It is located near Gosport, just outside Portsmouth. On a clear day you can see straight to the Isle of Wight. The coast backs onto the Alwar Valley Country Park (see below).

Calshot Beach is part of a mile-long shingle that stretches out to the mouth of Southampton Water, offering wonderful views of ships coming in and out of England’s largest port. It is therefore the site of a 16th century fort and on the other side of the Spit is a large salt marsh which is home to birds and other wildlife.

Milford is located on the seafront, with a sandy beach on the water’s edge. Cricket Beach Huts line the beach and overlook the Isle of Wight and The Needles. To the west you can clearly see the Purbeck Hills, Hengistbury Head and Christchurch Harbour. There are various places to stop and refuel along the beach.
Dogs are welcome in the Alwar Valley, with plenty of loop trails, mixed terrain and stunning views of the Solent, there’s something for every dog ​​(and owner). Dogs can run throughout much of the state park, and there are plenty of dog ramps for dogs that like to paddle. Itchen Valley Country Park is set in 440 hectares of beautiful water meadows, woodlands and meadows alongside the River Itchen and the Green Flag awarded Itchen Valley Dog Walk with a dedicated front crossing area. There’s even a self-service dog wash if things get muddy! Events such as craft workshops and art exhibitions are held frequently (check website for details and covid-19 restrictions), there is an on-site Go Ape, 2 outdoor play areas, an indoor play area, a cafe and more. If you have young children then Robin Hill is a great day out with the dogs on the Isle of Wight Robin Hill Country Park is perfect for visitors of all ages. The Eastleigh Lakeside Steam Railway is a popular attraction near Southampton, offering a perfect day out. Steam trains run from Eastleigh Parkway Central Station, all journeys are 15-20 minutes. Dogs are more than welcome on the railway and are allowed everywhere, including the cafe. Dogs travel for free on trains.
