Let me introduce you to Otis and us. Before we decided to buy a coach we had been camping with the kids for many years and loved glamping holidays and European camping holidays. We bought a van and started converting it.
We are a family of five and like to spend weekends and holidays in our converted Volkswagen T5 van. Enjoying motorhome life with our children has become a way of life now and over the years we have traveled extensively and found some super family friendly campsites across the UK.
We got a lot of advice along the way. Before we go on a trip, we make a packing list of all the bus essentials to make sure we don’t forget anything, and when space is tight, we include clever van storage ideas and packing cubes and all our clothing items. Arrange.

Not content with fitting five people into a camper van, we decided to expand our family with a beautiful golden retriever named Wilf. He goes everywhere with us and to be honest we wouldn’t have come if Wilf wasn’t popular. We’re always looking for dog friendly places for dog days out and dog friendly campsites in the UK and we’ve rounded up our favorite UK dog campsites in this post. I have also divided the camp into zones to make it easier for you to find.
That concludes our epic list of dog friendly UK campsites for 2024.

How To Find A Dog-friendly Glamping Or Camping Site
If any of my posts inspire you to visit, I hope you’ll tag me in any of your social media ventures! She would run straight to the front door for fear of being left behind if we found the keys to the van, she was quite happy on the road with her ears flapping in the wind.
So if we plan a trip with our coach, Ella will naturally be a big factor in that plan. Since Ella came into our lives, we’ve discovered some great dog-friendly campsites, and perhaps most importantly, we’ve learned what makes a campsite truly “friendly” to us.
This seems obvious, but we’re a little worried that the camp will welcome Ella with open arms, only to be told “no dogs allowed.” Call us naive, but until we had our own dogs it never occurred to us that some camps didn’t allow dogs.
These are few, but definitely worth learning from our mistakes and checking in advance. Most of the major booking sites, such as Cool Camping and Pitchup, have filters that you can use to remove any sites that are not dog friendly. Many camps will also note on their website whether dogs are allowed, and if not, you can always call and ask.
Vanlife With A Dog In The Uk: Everything You Need To Know!
One thing I love about being with Ella is that she forces us to explore our surroundings. Almost all campsites have a “no dog” policy (which is of course the best thing!). But our retriever is an active dog who needs to rest at least a few times a day, so that means finding a safe place to rest.
Luckily, camping and the woods go hand in hand, and we always find some hidden gems just a stone’s throw from camp.
Before booking a campsite, we check Google Maps to get an idea of the local area. We find common ground in forests, rivers or marked trails. Many campsites are on or near farmland, so we’ll also check if we can keep Ella away from livestock or crops while we’re away.
It’s worth checking whether local attractions and activities are dog-friendly, as well as any bars, cafes and restaurants you might want to visit.
Best Dog-friendly Camping In Suffolk 2024
This is especially important if you are going on a beach holiday in Devon or Cornwall. You can spend a long time looking for the perfect campsite near a beautiful beach, only to find out that your dog is not allowed on the beach.
In our experience, it pays to check in advance or your trip could be thrown out the window. On the other hand, you may be pleasantly surprised. We recently hired a canoe and managed to take Ella down the River Wye, something I never thought would happen!
Finally, a big plus in our opinion (but a little hard to come by) is a campsite with a shady spot. It would be more convenient if Ella could park in a shady spot (and for us, if we want to sleep for a while!).
It’s worth asking. Many campsites will provide accommodation where possible and reserve a shady spot for you if available.
Dog Friendly Holidays In Devon
So with that in mind, here are our top 5 dog friendly campsites in England and Wales. They don’t mark them all, but they are all pages that Ella and I returned to…
A comfortable and spacious campsite on the North Devon coast. Dogs on leash are welcome but this is a working farm so please be careful with livestock. The campsite is very friendly with good facilities and an excellent farm shop on site. It’s also close to Woolacombe Beach which is dog friendly (except for a very small section) and has endless sand dunes to explore.
If your dog needs to blow off some steam before breakfast… walk towards the camp entrance and you’ll see a trail on the right. Follow this path (off road) and it will eventually take you across a bridge into a quiet forest. We didn’t see another soul there!
A large open field in the middle of the lake with a mild atmosphere and no visible fields. There are numerous wild swimming spots in the area and the nearest village is a short walk away from the forest. All the pubs and cafes we visited in the village allowed dogs and there was plenty to explore in the area. There is only one thing you need to watch out for
