The Derwentwater Circuit is an easy, pet-friendly loop that starts in the pretty town of Keswick. Derwentwater dominates the lake view, and can be seen from any of the surrounding falls. Hiking trails will take you around it, with great opportunities for your dog to swim!

The hike up to Scout Scar is a short but sweet hike that offers spectacular views from the top of this limestone rock. Starting near Kendal town, the walk can easily be extended by walking straight into the town center or by a long walk along the Scar.

The spectacular climb to Castle Crag begins with an uphill climb from Seatoller near Borrowdale, but quickly develops into an uneventful rhythm. At points along the River Derwent, past forests and rolling fields, this hack offers varied views of the lake.
Grizedale Tarn is an out-and-back trail that passes through the most atmospheric area of the great Grizeale Forest. You can see it as part forest walk, part sculpture trail, as you pass some beautiful works of art along the way. It ends at Grizzly Tarn Lake before returning. There are also many other hiking trails to enjoy in Grizzly Forest.
The easy Elterwater Waterfall Walk is not uphill, so it’s a good option when the weather doesn’t look good. However, you still get plenty to see in the Falls of Skalveth Force and Koloth Force. You are close to all the waters of the Lake District, following beautiful river routes.

See caves and stop at William Wordsworth’s old home, Rydal Mount, Rydal Water and Grasmere Water on this varied walk. There are some uphill sections on the way, but you can stop for a well-deserved break in one of the many tea rooms in Grasmere town.
6 Of The Easiest Wainwrights For Children To Bag
Walla Crag is a steep hill that starts in Keswick town centre. The location is perfect, giving you the chance to have a quick breakfast before walking around and back in time for a well-deserved beer. This six mile walk is circular, with great views of Keswick and Derwentwater, but easy up and down, making it short, but as Walla Crag is one of the smaller Wainwrights. At 379m, it is the highest peak in England and the height of Wainwright is almost less than Scafell Pike (978m). But there’s something special about this little grill just south of Keswick.
Walla Crag is one of the most dog-friendly of the Wainwrights, where the woodland under cover is perfect for keeping your dog on a lead: a rarity in the Lake District, where sheep graze many open passes. , the cow, or even the wild gra pony (Sea O’ Skiddaw is where we’ve seen them before).
The real reason you’ll want to climb Vala Crag, however, is the spectacular view from the summit. It is nothing short of panoramic. For a reasonably steady climb, you’ll be rewarded with incredible views over Keswick and Derwentwater, with the central waterfall in the middle of the water giving a dramatic view of the mountain above it.
From the top, you can head back through the woods to the car park (stop in places), or continue to Bleaberry Fell to collect another Winery (once you have one, we guarantee you’ll want to do all of this – This is addictive).

Despite the millions of tourists every year, it’s not hard to find peace and quiet at the lakes.
